In order to live in the creative flow of life, uncertainty, mystery, and risk-taking must be embraced. In such a spirit, together we will find our way forward in the process of creating a movie, developing a screenplay and videotaping scenes on location here in Belfast.
Some of the videotaping will occur in small groups outside of scheduled class times. Ned Lightner will provide assistance with filming, while the instructor Jeff's son Andrew Edwards will assist with editing and animation.
We hope to complete filming within the six weeks of the class, but if necessary, filming could continue beyond the last scheduled session. When the final edit is complete, a public showing will be scheduled, with the finished product made accessible afterward online.
Past experience in acting or movie making is not required – simply a willingness to commit to the process, with the cultivation of the trust and flexibility that the process requires. Participants are invited to serve as the actors for the parts of all sizes that emerge in our development of a screenplay. If they prefer not to act, participants can contribute to our creative process in other ways. Drawing from the input of class members, Jeff will serve as director and primary writer.
This class is about the shared process of telling a story through the medium of film – not so much about learning the techniques of movie-making.

Instructor: Jeff Edwards
Jeff is a graduate of Earlham College and Yale Divinity School, retired from forty years of serving as a pastor in New Jersey. Throughout his ministry, he wrote and directed plays, inviting anybody who was willing to join him in engaging the creative process of theater. During the pandemic, Jeff shifted from in-person theater to movie making.
Last Spring Jeff taught a class entitled, “An Experiment in Creating Theater”, which culminated in a well-received performance staged in Basil Burwell Community Theater. He has also previously taught courses on CG Jung and Jesus of Nazareth.
