Explore Your Communities In Depth

This course will help participants explore their communities through fun, in-depth ethnographic fieldwork.

You will learn what communities are, what ethnography is, and how to use ethnographic research techniques to learn more about your communities, even if you have lived here for decades. This course will guide you as you explore your own communities—or someone else’s—through interviews, participant observation, and other approaches. No experience with research or ethnography is required.

Instructor: Michael Evans
Michael Evans holds a Ph.D. in Folklore and has conducted extensive ethnographic research in numerous communities, including an Inuit village in the Arctic, Aboriginal communities in the Australian Outback, and Native American nations, in addition to work in his own home towns. A former professor and active storyteller, he taught ethnographic research methods at Indiana University.
